Summary of the Educational Workshop on Giftedness and EDI Policies

On December 5th and 6th, the Student Entrepreneurship Centre (SEC) at Laboratorio Aperto (Ex-Teatro Verdi) in Ferrara, Italy, hosted an educational event centered on giftedness and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) policies. This workshop offered students a unique chance to explore the concept of giftedness and its significance in inclusive environments.

The workshop aimed to achieve two main goals: to introduce participants to Design Thinking, a structured method for problem-solving and innovation, and to promote collaboration among participants within a European university alliance on EDI themes. The insights gathered from participants will aid in developing a continental dialogue and action plan on EDI.

Facilitated by Prof. Tamara Zappaterra, researcher and expert Paola Tinarelli, and EDI officer Elena, the workshop guided participants in applying Applied Design Thinking (ADT), a globally recognized approach developed at Stanford University. ADT is an iterative, user-focused process that encourages understanding the user, challenging conventional assumptions, and redefining problems to discover alternative strategies and solutions. This approach nurtures creativity and innovation by prompting stakeholders to think outside the box and explore new ideas.

Design Thinking focuses on problem-solving and finding practical solutions, significantly reducing the time spent on design and development. Its user-centered approach enhances engagement and is more likely to yield feasible solutions.

The COLOURS alliance received highly positive feedback, with participants highlighting that the two-day event provided an opportunity to address and resolve meaningful issues, expand perspectives, and build friendships and connections.

The COLOURS alliance is dedicated to organizing more high-quality, inclusive projects, including additional micro-credential courses, workshops, student exchanges, and conferences. These activities aim to provide students with beneficial and engaging experiences to enrich their knowledge and essential skills for future careers, while also offering opportunities to make friends and enjoy themselves.
