Reflections from the COLOURS Expert Meeting in Czestochowa

On May 12–13, the Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa (JDU) hosted a dynamic and very productive expert meeting as part of the COLOURS Alliance. The event brought together colleagues from across our partner universities—Paderborn, Le Mans and Kristianstad, and others joining online—for two intensive days of strategic discussion and hands-on collaboration.

The meeting focused on advancing our work on micro-credentials, digital badges, joint degrees, and the integration of digital infrastructure across our alliance, including the shared catalogue of courses and interconnected Moodle platforms.

A major highlight was the keynote speech by prof. Dorota Piotrowska, Director of the International Cooperation Centre at Lodz University of Technology. Her talk, “Empowering Learning Pathways: The Strategic Role of Microcredentials in European Alliances,” provided valuable insights into current European frameworks and sparked engaging discussions among participants.

Key outcomes of the meeting included:

  • Agreement on implementation steps for piloting our shared course catalogue;
  • A coordinated plan for issuing and managing COLOURS digital badges across partner institutions;
  • Clarification of technical needs and governance for the COHUB and connected LMS systems;
  • Stronger alignment on the role of microcredentials in supporting flexible and inclusive learning pathways within the alliance.

The meeting provided a much-needed space for in-person dialogue, trust-building, and mutual understanding — all essential for successful cooperation within our alliance.

We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making this meeting both strategically significant and personally rewarding. In particular, we gratefully acknowledge the enormous support of the Weimar Excellence 2024 Initiative, whose funding made this event possible.
