The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) is built around the Model United Nations (MUN) methodology and is conceptualised as an interdisciplinary, transcultural and cross-faculty blended learning project. Model United Nations is an educational simulation in which students explore diplomacy, international relations and the work of the United Nations through experiential, challenge-based learning. By addressing real-world global issues, students are encouraged to collaboratively develop solutions in a structured, democratic environment.
The programme combines online and physical mobility components. It includes three preparatory virtual workshops followed by a five-day physical mobility centred on a Model United Nations conference. During the conference, students act as representatives of assigned countries and work within committees to debate, negotiate and resolve current global challenges through cooperation and consensus-building.
Throughout the programme, students develop key transversal skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, negotiation, teamwork and academic writing. A strong emphasis is placed on self-reflection, as participants are required to represent the official position of another country rather than their personal views, fostering empathy, perspective-taking and intercultural understanding. The conference concludes with the drafting and voting on policy proposals, known as draft resolutions, with the goal of achieving majority approval and addressing the challenges discussed.
Virtual component
Prior to the physical mobility, three virtual workshops prepare students for the Model UN experience. These sessions introduce the structure and rules of procedure of Model United Nations, guide students through research on current global challenges from their assigned country’s perspective, and support them in writing a comprehensive position paper outlining their country’s stance. Students also learn how to effectively represent their country and translate their research into active committee participation.
